Naja the Cobra Girl by Chronorin Naja the Cobra Girl by Chronorin
Isn't she pretty?

This is a really old drawing of Naja from when i first joined DeviantArt in 2003, back when she was still called "Cobra Girl." As you can see, i polished it so much that i doubt a single pixel of the old version remains. And i always liked the pose, so i'm resubmitting it.

Awesome design! She seems... reclusive, though. Is she afraid of hurting others or of others hurting her?

Maybe I'm putting too much thought into it. I just think it's a beautiful piece! Captivating expression.

In this case, it's hard to say... this is one of those ancient characters that never really had a satisfying backstory....

What a great concept. It is a nice departure from the traditional snake figure. I like it a lot!

She is indeed.

Though what are those fibers/feather/whiskers protruding from her? Sensory organs?

I remember the original version of this, and a whole heap of other things of yours from that era.

The only thing I think that really strikes me as heralding from an earlier time in your art (art-wise, not character-wise) is the face makes me think more of "back then" than your more modern stuff. Other than that... yeah. Your shading was -completely- different back then.

I know, and it was awful. I had no idea what i was actually doing, so i was working on some flat image with no layers, and just heaping on color after color, adding plastic wrap and channel mix effects at random until it looked... colorful.

When i look back at my old stuff, it's like waking up after a bender and seeing a trashed hotel room -- what did i do? What the heck did i DO?

Well to be honest I did think that the technique made your stuff a lot more signature than most the other artists I followed at the time, but... it also could make things very muddy, faces in particular, so I can see why the change. It did work for the most super-science-y / alien type stuff you were did, though.

Done with the muddiness. Done with it forever. Crystal clarity until my death!

I never saw the original but she looks so... lonely. She needs a friend to hug her and squeeze her and... no, wait.
Anyways,

Very very sexy. In fact, i think this is the first time I've ever had unclean thoughts for a fish.
Just a thought, but you might try adding a background with it, mayhaps an underwater scene, or somewhere along the beach(?) (I don't know whats going on with the northern lights thing you have goin there).
