Is it still almost Christmas?  As usual, i'll be working on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, so that's my plans.  Bleeaaaah.

I feel spacey tonight.  Ne0natomy recommended that i watch the animated Disney Tarzan movie, and i'm doing that now... spectacular animation, and motherfucking PHIL COLLINS.  Heheheheheh... let's see, this movie came out in 1999... that was during that somewhat awkward period where the whole "characters breaking into song" thing had gotten a bit stale, so they avoided it, but hadn't quite found their new flavor just yet.  Still, the movies from that era -- Tarzan, Treasure Planet, Mulan, and Lilo & Stitch are total classics...

...i never really cottoned to The Emperor's New Groove, and i never saw Brother Bear or Home on the Range.  And i call myself a Disneyphile?  Shame upon me.

I missed a lot of pop culture from 1997 to 2002, because that was the busiest and most interesting part of my entire life.  I was working and going to school and getting wasted and doing all manner of ill shit.  It was the one time in my life when i wasn't a pop culture addict.

When 9-11 happened, it took me a long time to realize that anything was wrong.  We were on Mars, dude.

^__^

Oooof.  What am i doing.  What is today.  I need to get my car back today.

Hmm, the new guy at my job quit.  So i'm back to the six days at work... oh, god, these 2-day weekends have been spoiling me.  I've just been lolling about in decadence and sloth, casually doing laundry and drawing without feeling rushed.  No more of that for a bit.

There are a lot of funny videos on the Internet, right?  For my money, one of the funniest of all time is Bad Lip Reading's treatment of Twilight: Eclipse.  Jasper's unintelligible vaguely-Cajun gibberish kills me every time...

...de wogga-wooga havva-chee!

Anyway, i'm back to sketching out Magma Oni Mei and Muscley Metal Oni Tenten.
HAVE A GOOD DAY RAAAAARGH.

Cheers, dude! Glad you liked it. Better late than never! ;)

And yes, PHIL FREAKIN' COLLINS!!!

Treasure Planet was AMAZING, but unfortunately got swept up in the CG Animation fad and couldn't find its audience, so it was basically white noise. Brother Bear was a big bowl of MEH, personally. No rewatchability, no truly memorable characters. It was just there. Emperor's New Groove, while hilarious and something I consider a classic, just didn't have that Disney feel. It felt like if DreamWorks and SNL had a baby and it was distributed by Disney. Home on the Range killed Disney's animation department and honestly, I think it was made terrible on purpose so that the Disney Execs could justify dumping their traditional animation department, focus on CG, and ultimately buy Pixar.

Then we had "The Princess and the Frog" which sadly DID suffer from pre-production hell, but ultimately delivered a decent, memorable film that signalled a glorious return to Disney's trad animation, with a promise to make at least one traditional 2d movie every 2 years. Two years later, Disney kills it with a Pooh movie nobody wanted and chalked its failure up to trad animation and shitcanned the department entirely...

Sorry, I can go on and on about how Disney tragically dumped its trad 2D animation department in the early 2000's to usurp it with CG. We still have amazing movies that have the Disney spirit like Tangled, Frozen, Wreck-It Ralph, Big Hero Six, Moana, etc but there's still that small part of me that longs for traditional 2D animation...

*steps off soapbox*

Anyway, ONIS!!!
